The Research Project
This thesis aims to investigate the challenges posed by updates in progressive visualizations of spatial datasets. Specifically, the focus is on how geospatial map views can be linked and updated during analysis, and how these updates can overwhelm users. The problem lies in the lack of mechanisms to prioritize or synchronize these updates in a user-friendly manner. The goal is to establish a foundation for solutions that optimize the progressive updating process, balancing the need for real-time feedback while minimizing the cognitive burden on users.
The Research Questions
* Review of existing work on progressive visualization and incremental updates in spatial and geospatial data analysis
* Analysis of how geospatial map views are currently linked and updated in progressive visualization systems
* Identification of user challenges related to update frequency, synchronization, and cognitive overload
* Examination of existing mechanisms for prioritizing, coordinating, or filtering updates across linked views
* Exploration of design strategies for managing progressive updates in geospatial visualizations
* Conceptual design or prototypical implementation of mechanisms
Your Qualification
Good understanding of visual analytics and data analysis.
Experience with advanced visualization libraries (preferably d3.js)
Expierence in data processing using programming languages (preferably Python)
Scientific writing
