This Lead Systems Engineer position can be based out of Italy in the Bologna region or in
Germany, Hamm but candidates must be able to work onsite on a frequent basis.
As the Lead Systems Design Engineer you will be responsible for the architectural design, development, test, optimisation and integration of excavator machine hydraulic systems for world class material handling and off highway construction machinery.
Your Role: Lead Systems Engineer – Hydraulics
* Working with the hydraulics design team in China, you will be responsible for optimising hydraulic systems design, improving current hydraulic systems & machine behaviour and ensuring precise & accurate excavator hydraulic performance
* Offer technical leadership and guidance to the hydraulics design team either onsite or remotely
* Concept excavator hydraulic systems design and architecture, feasibility, optimisation and performance improvement
* Test, fault find and integration of hydraulic systems into excavator machines to support prototype creation
* Support all hydraulic design and development activities within the team to create fully working, high performance systems

Your background: Lead Systems Engineer - Hydraulics
* This role requires strong industry knowledge in excavator machines & hydraulic systems to understand how the engine, powertrain, vibrations, control systems etc effect the hydraulic accuracy and functionality
* You will have worked on machine systems architecture and hydraulic design for construction or off-highway excavator machines
* Proven ability to provide technical leadership on projects and to a team of hydraulics design engineers
* Good understanding of hydrostatic drives, pumps, pressure valves, fluid flow control systems and circuit optimisation & performance
* Good hands on test & development skills; willing to get hands dirty across all aspects of machine design and build
* Degree qualified or equivalent in mechanical, mechatronics engineering or similar
* You will be required to travel to China 3-4 times a year to support the hydraulics design team and oversee prototype build and test projects. Depending on the size of the project, this could be for 2-4 weeks at a time.
