We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Architect / Data Modeller (m/f/d) to join our data team. In this role, you will support the design, development, and maintenance of data models and architecture that enable efficient data management and analytics across the organization..
The Data Architect / Data Modeller will also support the Data Architecture team to deliver the function’s core capabilities and services, as well as to develop and mature data platforms across SMBC EMEA. They will also work with wider EMEA Data Office to deliver against our new Data Strategy for SMBC..
We are seeking an enthusiastic problem solver who is keen to get involved at the early part of an exciting journey for the bank. The role will be involved in some interesting work including innovative prototyping, small projects, and larger programs of work.

Role Summary
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
* Assist in designing and maintaining conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
* Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
* Support the development and documentation of data architecture standards and best practices.
* Help ensure data models align with business goals and technical requirements.
* Participate in data quality and governance initiatives.
* Analyze existing data structures and recommend improvements for performance and scalability.
* Use data modelling tools (e.g., ER/Studio, ERwin, dbt, or similar) to create and manage models
* Presenting interesting insights to the wider business.
* Collaborating with the wider data family, including analysts, engineers, and product managers
* Supporting the implementation of the EMEA Data Architecture Framework
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a comparable qualification.
* Understanding of data modelling concepts (e.g., normalization, star/snowflake schemas).
* Familiarity with SQL and relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
* Solid knowledge of further Data Architecture Concepts e.g. NoSQL Architecture, Data Lake, Data Mesh, Data Fabric, Medallion Architecture
* Strong Interest in data management such as data governance, data analytics
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Good communication and teamwork abilities.
* Eagerness to learn and grow in a data-driven environment.
* A good understanding of, and experience of applying, project management principles and approaches like waterfall and agile.
* Experience of working in the financial services industry and knowledge of data related regulatory requirements.
* Experience working in a data team and collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify, scope and develop data analytics solutions.
* An outstanding problem solver who has an analytical mindset, is inquisitive, innovative, and excellent with technology enabling a creative approach to solution scoping and delivery.
* Ability to plan and manage own work with minimal supervision.
Business Area
The EU AG Data Office as part of the EMEA Data Office sits within the Operations, Planning and Data Department, covering all EU AG entities (including Securities and Banking subsidiaries) and all datasets. This team is responsible for defining and implementing the EMEA/EU AG Data Strategy and building out its data management capabilities.
As part of this work, the EMEA/EU AG Data Office has established a framework which encompasses cultural, behavioural, procedural, and system transformation to deliver the new strategy. This initially focuses on good governance by improved Data Architecture, Data Management and Data Quality, but as we evolve, will focus more on how we can use Data to drive new ways of working and improved business outcomes.
