Since 2021, the client has been implementing Windchill as its PLM system. Document management has already been used productively on an international scale for several years. Since early 2025, users have also been working with WT Document Management processes. A functioning SAP-Windchill interface is also in place. Upcoming releases include, among other things, WT Parts Management including data migration of SAP components, as well as an interface with the electrical design software Altium.
No performant infrastructure, no functioning infrastructure for Windchill test, quality, and production systems.
Releases/patches are challenging / internal know-how is incomplete.
Tasks for Creating the AS-IS IT Landscape:
* Inventory of the existing IT infrastructure (servers, network, storage, security architecture)
* Analysis of the existing PLM system architecture (databases, application servers, interfaces, CAD/ERP integration)
* Survey of the system landscape including all dependent systems (CAD, ERP, etc.)
* Documentation of system topologies, data flows, and dependencies
* Evaluation of performance, stability, and security
* Identification of technical weaknesses and bottlenecks
* Recording of operational concepts, backup/recovery strategies, and SLAs
Tasks for Defining the TO-BE IT Landscape:
* Design of an optimized PLM infrastructure, including system components, interfaces, and security concepts
* Consideration of high availability, disaster recovery, and compliance
* Selection of suitable technologies and platforms (e.g., containerization, hybrid cloud, centralized vs. decentralized architectures)
* Definition of migration strategies and transition phases
* Cost and effort estimation for implementation
* Preparation of decision templates for IT and business management
Skills / Long-standing experience in:
* Server & network knowledge: Windows/Linux, DNS, VPN, firewalls, load balancing
* Virtualization & cloud: VMware, Azure/AWS, hybrid PLM architectures
* PLM-specific system knowledge: Siemens Teamcenter, Windchill, 3DEXPERIENCE
* Databases: Oracle, MS SQL – backup, performance, high availability
* System integration: ERP, CAD, DMS integration, REST/SOAP API
* Access management & SSO: LDAP, Active Directory, SAML
* Operations & lifecycle: release, patch & change management, monitoring & troubleshooting
* Teamwork with business departments & external partners
* Documentation & project participation (e.g., ITIL, agile methods)
