Your responsibilities

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

We seek to appoint a three-year Research Associate to conduct radioastronomical research focusing on cosmic magnetic fields at the Observatory of the University of Hamburg.

The goal of this work, funded by the German Research Foundation, is to search for cosmic magnetic fields using radio polarization measurements.

The successful applicant will be based on the Hamburg Observatory campus. Scientists at Hamburg Observatory cover a wide range of research areas of modern astrophysics, such as extragalactic astronomy, cosmology, galaxy formation, gravitational waves and statistical analysis including artificial intelligence. Our 9 individual research groups provide a diverse and stimulating research environment. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be able to benefit from the Observatory's close ties with other research institutes in Hamburg, including DESY and the Cluster of Excellence "Quantum Universe". Generous computing resources as well as travel funding will be available to the successful candidate.

Your profile

A university degree in a relevant field.

The job requires a master university degree in physics.

Strong background in physics and astronomy, with prior research experience in radio astronomy. Documented coding experience in scientific python.

Successful candidates will have have experience with polarisation observations, spectral index and multi-wavelength studies.

German language skills are not required.
