Full Professorship (W3) in Pandemic Preparedness and Zoonotic Infections
University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo)
As part of its strategic development of the research focus Infection Medicine and to strengthen the Research Center for Emerging Infections and Zoonoses (RIZ), the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover (TiHo) invites applications for a Full Professorship (W3) in Pandemic Preparedness and Zoonotic Infections to be filled at the earliest possible date.
Depending on individual qualifications, the appointment may be made either as a civil servant or an employee under salary W3. Depending on suitability, an initial temporary appointment may also be considered
The professorship is part of the TiHo’s Center for Infection Medicine and will be located in the RIZ, which features an outstanding research environment, including state-of-the-art biosafety laboratories (BSL-2 and BSL-3) and dedicated animal facilities. It brings together interdisciplinary teams from virology, microbiology, immunology, parasitology, biochemistry, food science, and the clinical departments of TiHo.
TiHo is part of a highly visible research network in the Hannover-Braunschweig-Göttingen region. Collaboration at regional, national, and international levels is strongly encouraged and expected.
Position Profile
We seek an internationally recognized researcher with a scientific focus on zoonotic infections, virus evolution, and pandemic preparedness. The successful candidate is expected to develop and sustain an innovative, translational research program, specifically addressing:
* Evolution of pathogen virulence and zoonotic transmission Development of vaccines and novel therapeutics Preventive and interdisciplinary strategies within the One Health framework
The successful candidate will play a significant role in strategic development of the research agenda of the RIZ. The candidate is expected to actively expand interdisciplinary and translational research networks, both nationally and internationally.
Requirements
In accordance with § 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG), applicants must fulfill the formal requirements for appointment to a full professorship, including a habilitation or equivalent scientific qualifications. A university degree in veterinary medicine, human medicine or life sciences is required.
Applicants should demonstrate:
* High international visibility through excellent and diverse publication activities Outstanding achievements in basic and applied infection research Proven success in securing and coordinating competitive third-party funding (e.g., DFG, BMBF, EU) Recognized expertise in translational research, ideally in cooperation with the pharmaceutical industry Substantial experience in leading BSL-3 laboratories, animal experimentation, and working with non-traditional animal models Experience in diagnostics of zoonotic infectious diseases
Teaching and Other Responsibilities
The professorship is involved in:
* Teaching in veterinary medicine, as well as in the BSc and MSc programs in Biology, particularly in the fields of zoonoses, vaccine development, and pandemic preparedness Graduate education as part of the TiHo Graduate School (HGNI) Supervision of international PhD candidates (desirable) Active participation in technology transfer, in collaboration with the TiHo Tech Transfer Office and Clinical Trials Unit Engagement in science communication, public outreach, and science education, in alignment with the TiHo’s Third Mission goals
Evidence for completion of courses in university didactics should be provided together with results of teaching evaluations.
