Department Description
Microchip’s Automotive Information Systems Business Unit (AIS) delivers industry leading communication semiconductors to support emerging vehicle systems and industrial automation architectures.
The Applications group consists of six teams distributed over the three sites Austin, Karlsruhe and Chennai.
The department provides interfaces between customers, product marketing, design, validation and verification teams. We participate very actively in all stages of a product’s life cycle - from early definition of required features to proof of design goals achieved and support of the customers towards their start of production.
What will you do in this position
Reporting to the Senior Manager Applications you will be part of the Applications group. As a Principal Engineer Applications, you will have a technical and managerial role for the Software Applications team in Karlsruhe and a pure technical role for the team members in Chennai.
Your strong communication and writing skills will assist you while interfacing with various internal design, support, hardware, and marketing teams. You must be able to effectively communicate technical information to individuals with varying levels of expertise and use your technical knowledge to ask and answer customers questions.

With your team you will:
1. Create early prototypes of future and market leading wired networking products derived from customer input.
2. Bring early FPGA prototypes to live in an application context.
3. Create, release and support firmware examples and driver to support these products on our 8-, 16- and 32bit-MCU/MPUs plus competitor products.
4. Define and create demonstrators to showcase key differentiators of our products together with the marketing and hardware team and present those in public events.

Requirements/Qualifications:
8. A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field of study
9. 7+ years of experience in embedded firmware programming
10. First management experience
Competencies
11. Excellent motivational and leadership skills to drive distributed development teams.
12. Practical experience with MCU architectures including PIC, dsPIC and ARM
13. Very good C/C++ skills
14. Knowledge of vehicle communications systems including CAN, LIN, Ethernet.
15. Strong project management skills
16. Strong spoken and written communication skills
17. Understanding of automotive embedded system performance and robustness needs.
18. Knowledge of embedded software architecture and vehicle related standards like AUTOSAR.
