Job Description:
MAJOR FUNCTION
The Supervising Dentist is housed within the Dental Hygiene Clinic on main campus. The presence of a supervising dentist during all clinic sessions is essential. The dentist will be present on the clinic floor for the entire session or until all patients are dismissed. Patients are referred for care to their dentist of record, or We Care, Bond Community Health Center, LCHD, etc. The dentist evaluates histories, requests medical consultations for systemic complications, and guides dental hygiene students in completing related forms. If immediate consultation is needed, the dentist contacts the physician and documents recommendations. The dentist administers local anesthesia until students complete their Local Anesthesia Practicum in DES2051 Pain Control. Patients are scheduled for weekly clinic screenings, with dental hygiene students assigned to these screenings as part of their rotation.
The Supervising Dentist oversees patient screening, prioritizes patient needs, and provides written prescriptions for medications, radiographs, sealants, and chemotherapeutic agents. They perform oral cancer exams during screenings and examine any suspicious lesions at future appointments, providing differential diagnoses. The dentist ensures documentation quality and accuracy in patient records, reviews the "Patient Daily Record Review," and addresses discrepancies. They interpret all dental x-rays, oversee quality control of x-ray techniques, and assist students with panoramic x-ray exposures.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Dentist licensed in Florida.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE: Ability to follow clinic and college policies, instruct students effectively, and work collegially with faculty and staff.
