Job Description
Shopware is a leading ecommerce system that enables companies worldwide to scale quickly and efficiently in digital commerce. As a trendsetting open source solution, Shopware is already used by some of the largest European brands, retailers and manufacturers in the B2C and B2B industries.
As a UX Engineer at Shopware, you’ll be mission‑critical in closing the gap between design intent and production implementation, ensuring the products we ship are high‑quality, consistent, accessible, and delightful. This role is horizontal across org boundaries: design systems, web and mobile UI, platform components, and UX quality frameworks. You'll join the dedicated Metor Design System team embedded in our UX team. You combine front‑end engineering excellence with a deep understanding of user experience principles, developing code‑based prototypes, steering design system evolution, and acting as an advocate for quality and consistency across all Shopware products.
This position can be filled on‑site, hybrid, but also full‑remote within Germany or specific European countries where we are registered. Your work location will be agreed upon in advance and forms the basis of your employment contract.
Responsibilities
* Translate UX and interaction designs into reusable, production‑ready components.
* Build and maintain Shopware’s Design System, including tokens, documentation, and design patterns.
* Create interactive prototypes and proof‑of‑concepts to ensure alignment between designs and engineering.
* Advocate for accessibility (WCAG), responsiveness, and performance in UI implementation.
* Conduct audits and improve already delivered features in terms of design quality and usability.
* Mentor engineers and designers in best UX practices.
* Foster collaboration between design and development teams and reduce handoff friction.
* Act as an advocate for quality across teams and help define UX engineering standards.
Qualifications
* 3‑5 years of practical experience in UX, especially within web development and related fields, with a completed degree or training in UX design, web development, or psychology.
* Advanced knowledge of design software, particularly Figma, and adept at leveraging it in design workflows.
* Deep understanding of UX principles and best practices to create seamless and effective user experiences.
* Strong communication and collaboration abilities, working effectively with cross‑functional teams.
* Familiarity with design systems, style guides, and version control systems like Git.
* Fluency in English, both written and spoken, with excellent communication skills for an international environment.
Benefits
* Open culture with flat hierarchies, encouraging individual initiative.
* Permanent positions that offer long‑term security.
* Flexible working hours and options for mobile work and full‑remote contracts.
* Freedom to choose preferred work hardware.
* Well‑structured onboarding with support from a personal “buddy.”
* Inspiring environment with dedicated colleagues and a dynamic community.
* Diverse opportunities for personal growth and development.
* Attractive perks such as company pension plans, health programs, and regular team events.
* And much more!
