The Professorship for British Studies/Cultural and Media Studies at the University of Passau invites applications for the position of
Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant
starting 1 April 2026.
This is a part-time position, amounting to 0.5 full time equivalent (FTE), with a term of three years and the option of extension within the framework of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contracts Act. Remuneration is in accordance with pay grade E13 of the German public-sector collective agreement (TV-L); the salary step depends on qualifications and experience.
Your duties and responsibilities
Plan, administer and deliver classes in the field of British Cultural Studies of a total of 2.5 teaching contact hours per week. Teaching in the field of British Literary Studies will be required on occasion.
Conduct your own research project with the aim of obtaining a doctoral degree.
Assist in current and future research projects of the professorship for British Studies/ Cultural and Media Studies.
Carry out administrative and organisational tasks relating to the professorship.
Person specification
You are a good fit for this position if you have a university masterâs degree with distinction or an equivalent academic qualification in English Studies or in an interdisciplinary programme with a strong focus on English Studies. Your study progression should show a clear emphasis on cultural, media, and/or literary studies. You must be able to work very well independently, while also being a good team player who communicates effectively in both English and German, both orally and in writing. A current research project in British Studies with a focus on cultural and/or media studies would be desirable.
