At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes a reality every day. Our focus topics are: offshore wind energy, hydrogen, test infrastructure and digitization. More than 400 employees – including around 100 students – from over 50 countries work at nine locations in scientific and non-scientific teams on the development of innovative methods to accelerate the expansion of the wind energy and hydrogen economy, minimize risks, and increase cost efficiency. Do you want to join us in shaping a sustainable future?
Be part of change
You will be part of the “Offshore Operations & Logistics” group at our site in Bremerhaven, Bremen or Hamburg. Here, we develop innovative methods for the optimization of installation, operation, and dismantling concepts for offshore wind farms. At the heart of these activities is the development of software tools that can be used to map and analyze the entire life of an offshore wind farm in detailed time-series simulations. At present, the team consists of five employees and several students. We support each other irrespective of our projects and backgrounds. A culture of open exchange and cooperation, even beyond team boundaries and sites, are particularly important to us.
You will further develop various models and methods. To that end, you will analyze and optimize installation, operation, and dismantling concepts for offshore wind farms. This will allow you to find ways to reduce risks and costs over the entire life of the wind farm. To develop these methods and further advance the in-house software, you will use Python.
You will assist our team in acquiring industry projects in which the methods and models you develop will be applied, and you will be involved in research projects – for example, by generating ideas, submitting applications, and reporting results. In addition, you will work with and interface with other groups at our institute.
What you contribute
You have completed your diploma or master’s degree in the field of Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering Management, or Mechanical Engineering specializing in one of the subjects mentioned above. In addition, you have Python programming skills and perhaps also some experience in the offshore processes and offshore logistics related to wind farm operation.
If you also have experience in project work and/or wind energy in general, as well as experience in the modeling of work processes, then this is the perfect fit for you! Do not worry if your profile does not cover everything yet: You can also develop with us. Here at IWES, we operate on an international level – a good command of German and English will make your day-to-day work easier.
