The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and funded by federal and state government. AWI focuses on polar and marine research in a variety of disciplines such as biology, oceanography, geology, geochemistry and geophysics thus allowing multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals. Student assistant (m/f/d) in paleoecology and paleogenetics for field & lab work and data analysis Background The research area of our research group at the AWI in Potsdam ( Polar Terrestrial Environmental Systems ) includes analyzes of ecosystem changes using sediment cores mostly from the Arctic, but also from temperate regions. We use sedimentological, paleoeclogical and paleogenetic analysis to produce time series data from the sediment archives. Your Tasks In the announced student worker positions we are looking for support in one or all fields : Paleoecological/time-series data analysis in R (multivariate statistics) Field work in Brandenburg for collection of lake sediment samples Sample processing in the laboratories (subsampling, sample preparation for subsequent analysis) Your Profile Enrolled at an University Interested in the topic Basic knowledge in environmental research, methods and/or data analysis Students with general interest to write the master or bachelor thesis on related topics at AWI are particularly welcome.
