LUMA Vision is a start-up based in Dublin (Ireland) and Munich (Germany) developing cutting edge imaging technologies to advance healthcare and solve global unmet clinical needs. We apply engineering and design know-how to create hardware, software and data science technologies.
The position is based in Munich and reports to the Head of Hardware Systems. It is a hybrid role, with 4 days on site. The RF Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining RF solutions for the ultrasound imaging platform, with emphasis on ultrasound analog front end and EMI/EMC performance. This role is part of the development team for LUMA Vision imaging and navigation systems and imaging catheters, addressing challenges in medical ultrasound for intracardiac imaging. The Senior RF Engineer owns the RF design process of customized hardware and software for existing development and new product introduction, collaborating with the broader team to capture User & Business needs for RF development and working with multidisciplinary teams to define requirements and specifications. The role includes developing and executing test plans and protocols to verify that designs meet design inputs according to the design controls process.
Responsibilities
* Design and develop complex software controlled electro‑mechanical systems for medical ultrasound and related test setups, involving both analogue and digital electronics with a focus on embedded system design and implementation.
* Lead the design and development of ultrasound analog front end and RF circuits for intracardiac echography, owning the development process from design inputs to qualification of design outputs.
* Be involved in all steps of the development cycle with a focus on early design through manufacturing and testing of products and prototypes.
* Design, plan, set up, conduct, document, and review development tests.
* Keep up to date with the latest developments in the field to keep LUMA Vision at the forefront of innovation.
* Participate in embedded hardware development and in testing of mixed signal circuits, including SPICE simulation and PCB design.
* Utilise rapid electronics prototyping, debugging and failure analysis, and work with lab procedures and equipment.
* Participate in the development of PCBs and grounding, shielding and EMC/EMI design, including analogue, digital, and embedded processing circuitry.
* Ensure designs meet medical device and electronic industry compliance and regulatory requirements, with emphasis on IEC 60601 and EMI/EMC performance.
* Apply knowledge in signal theory, analogue and digital electronics, high frequency electronics, mathematics and electronic manufacturing techniques.
* Demonstrate strong work ethics and a team‑oriented mindset as required in a start‑up environment.
Qualifications and Experience
* MUST: Have Bachelor or Master’s Degree in electronic and electrical engineering or related training background
* MUST: 5+ years’ experience in embedded hardware development, testing of mixed signal circuits, including SPICE simulation and PCB design
* MUST: Strong record in rapid electronics prototyping, debugging and failure analysis, and working with lab procedures and equipment
* MUST: Experience with PCBs and grounding, shielding and EMC/EMI design, filtering techniques including analogue, digital, and embedded processing circuitry
* MUST: Engineering knowledge in signal theory, analogue and digital electronics, high frequency electronics, mathematics, electronic manufacturing techniques
* MUST: Knowledge of electrical test equipment usage
* MUST: Knowledge of Design Controls
* MUST: Experience working within a Quality Management System
* MUST: Experience creating requirements
* MUST: Experience in verification and validation testing
* MUST: English communication
* MUST: Relevant experience in electronic or medical device industry and experience with electrical hardware development in compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g. IEC 60601, IEC 61000)
* MUST: Familiarity with working with complex systems
* MUST: Knowledge of ultrasound imaging systems
* MUST: Experience creating test protocols
* MUST: Experience writing test reports
* SHOULD: Experience working in a startup environment
* COULD: Experience writing scripts in Python
