The Competence Center of Cultural Heritage Digitization at Fraunhofer IGD develops and automates 3D scanning technologies to allow for automatic 3D reconstruction of cultural heritage and industrial objects. Different acquisition devices are used depending on the object properties and quality requirements. A new robot-based multi-sensor platform will combine the existing technologies to enable a capture quality superior to that of the individual systems.
Be part of change
First, you will gain expertise in controlling a Universal Robots (UR3) and dive into object‑centric path planning. You will use this knowledge to generate near‑surface trajectories for high‑resolution laser scanning based on an existing coarse scan. Key aspects include collision‑free autonomous path planning and synchronization between the robot and sensors. You will evaluate the methods for completeness, robustness, and runtime on representative datasets and iteratively improve both the setup and the algorithms.
What you contribute
* Very good C++ programming skills
* Strong knowledge in mathematics and linear algebra
* Proficient English skills
* Precise, responsible, independent working style
* Experience in robotics
* Experience with physics simulations is advantageous
