Full Professor of Pharmaceutical and Medical Chemistry (salary group W3)
at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy. This is a full-time and permanent position to be filled by the earliest possible starting date.
We seek to appoint an internationally recognized leader in the field. The department offers a strong research environment that is integrated into the key research priorities of FAU. As a member of the Management Committee of the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy, the professor will represent the entire breadth of the field of pharmaceutical and medical chemistry in teaching and research. We would welcome applications from internationally recognized scientists whose research focuses preferably on the identification and characterization of new bioactive substances and their mechanisms, biological targets, or signal cascades. We expect close interdisciplinary collaboration within the university, in particular with the FAU Research Center New Bioactive Compounds (FAU NeW), but also with the Faculty of Medicine, the Erlangen National High-Performance Computing Center (NHR@FAU), the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, and the Max-Planck-Zentrum für Physik und Medizin, and we also expect the professor to initiate new collaborative projects. The successful candidate will be fully committed to teaching pharmaceutical/medical chemistry and pharmaceutical analysis pursuant to the Licensing Regulations for Pharmacists (AAppO), as well as teaching in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Molecular Science in both German and English.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record in research and teaching. They are required to have a university degree and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline and additional postdoctoral qualifications (either a habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications). These qualifications may also have been achieved in a non-university context or through a junior faculty position (for example as assistant professor).
The successful candidate is expected to carry out administrative duties and take a proactive approach to raising third-party funding. FAU pursues a policy of intense student mentoring and expects its teaching staff to be present during lecture periods. Candidates who are able and willing to teach in both English and German are preferred.
