Join our team in Würzburg as:
Staff Systems Engineer - Automotive OEM (m/w/d)
BEING PART OF OUR TEAM, YOU WILL:
* Create and maintain system architecture specifications, interface definitions, and integration plans that serve as the foundation for downstream hardware, firmware, and software development teams.
* Decompose product and business requirements into a system architecture that defines interfaces, boundaries, design constraints, and both static (structural) and dynamic (timing, data flows, state transitions) system behaviors.
* Drive hardware block diagrams including the selection of main components (e.g., SoC, MCU), define interfaces with the vehicle for various subsystems (e.g., networking, connectivity, display, audio), and clarify system behavior in the vehicle environment.
* Define software system architecture including partitioning, interface specification, and integration with hardware abstraction layers, ensuring efficient and reliable interaction with hardware components.
* Conduct multidisciplinary design reviews, validating that hardware performance, firmware integration, and software interoperability align with architectural intent and behavioral requirements.
* Oversee tradeoff analysis spanning both hardware constraints (e.g., power, signal integrity, EMI/EMC) and software considerations (e.g., latency, throughput, reliability).
* Establish system verification criteria that unify hardware validation, firmware testing, and software QA processes.
* Apply systems engineering methodologies (e.g., FMEA, risk analysis, design-for-test, design-for-manufacturing) across hardware and software subsystems.
* Contribute inventions, new designs, and techniques regarded as significant advances in engineering.
* Provide mentorship and technical leadership to engineers across domains, fostering systems-level thinking and technical excellence.
* Represent Garmin among industry partners, peer groups, and regulating agencies.
* Associates are expected to integrate, use, and provide feedback on products in development when possible as part of their normal job responsibilities.
YOU HAVE:
* Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Software Engineering or related field and multiple years (approx. 20 years) of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
* Demonstrated proficiency in research and development of leading-edge technology in the automotive infotainment domain
* Excellent understanding of hardware and software development and capable of driving system design in a fast-paced environment
* Multiple years of experience in offering direction and influence to engineering management on different organizational levels
* Very good understanding of industrialization processes and related factory collaborations
* Strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
* Unique blend of technical, business and project skills that enables vision and ownership of a given technology or system
