The opportunity
You will be part of an international team of specialized designers and engineers, collaborating across regions and borders on some of Arup’s most significant data centre and mission critical projects in Europe.
This role offers a genuine opportunity to drive and influence design strategy, standards and ways of working across regions, within a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing and collaboration among experts and professionals. You will take on design leadership responsibilities for large, complex data centre projects in Germany and across Europe, working closely with colleagues from multiple disciplines and geographies.
You will lead multidisciplinary teams through early concept, planning, detailed design and delivery, guiding projects through construction while maintaining design intent, technical quality and coordination under demanding programme and regulatory conditions.
As a Senior Design Manager / Project Manager Design - Data Centre at Arup, you will:
1. Own and drive the design strategy across disciplines from concept through delivery
2. Lead architects, specialist engineers and consultants as a single, integrated team
3. Manage design programmes, deliverables, interfaces and approvals
4. Act as the primary design interface between clients, authorities and internal teams
5. Ensure design quality, technical compliance, cost, risk, and programme
6. Champion sustainability, resilience and longterm performance
7. Mentor junior and senior team members and help shape best practice across the group
Does this role inspire you?
We are looking for someone passionate about sustainable data centre design and who possesses:
8. Extensive experience leading design on complex, multidisciplinary projects
9. Experience in missioncritical, industrial, infrastructure or highly technical projects
10. Minimum of 10 years professional experience
11. Strong understanding of HOAI, RIBA or equivalent frameworks
12. Confidence navigating planning, permitting and authority processes
13. Degree in architecture, engineering, or a related discipline
14. Excellent communication and team leadership skills
15. Very good written and spoken English skills and preferably German
