Responsibilities: Identify, assess, and classify energy-storage-specific risks in the German/EU context, including battery fire and thermal runaway, electrolyte leakage, grid connection and compliance risks, extreme weather events, construction and occupational safety risks, product and public liability exposures, and environmental impacts. Establish and maintain an Energy Storage Risk Register, aligned with EU and German risk management standards, with regular updates to risk probability and impact assessments. Conduct full lifecycle risk assessments for grid-scale, distributed, and commercial energy storage projects and deliver Risk Assessment Reports with clear mitigation and insurance recommendations. Monitor and analyze European and international loss events in the energy storage sector, extract best practices, and continuously refine risk and insurance models. Design tailored insurance programs based on project phase and risk profile: Construction phase: Construction All Risks (CAR), Erection All Risks (EAR), contractor liability, employer’s liability, and occupational accident coverage. Operational phase: Property All Risks, Machinery Breakdown, Business Interruption, Public and Product Liability, Environmental Liability (where applicable). R&D / manufacturing: Prototype and testing insurance, product quality and recall insurance, supply chain interruption coverage. Lead insurance procurement processes, including preparation of underwriting information, coordination with insurance brokers, tendering with EU insurers, and evaluation of coverage terms and premiums. Negotiate insurance conditions, including deductibles, limits, exclusions, and policy wording, in line with German and EU insurance market practices. Maintain ongoing communication with insurers and brokers to reflect project changes (capacity expansion, technology upgrades, repowering) and ensure continuous adequacy of coverage. Establish and manage insurance claims processes, including coordination of loss adjusters, documentation of losses, claim negotiation, and timely settlement. Support subrogation and recovery actions involving EPC contractors, equipment suppliers, or operators where third-party liability applies. Maintain an Insurance Claims Case Library to document claims outcomes, lessons learned, and process improvements. Qualifications: 5+ years of professional experience in insurance or risk management, including 3+ years related to energy storage, renewable energy (PV/wind), power infrastructure, or industrial assets in Europe. Bachelor’s degree or higher in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred). Solid knowledge of German and EU insurance products, including property, liability, engineering, and environmental insurance, as well as claims handling practices. Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g. German Insurance Contract Act – VVG, Occupational Health & Safety regulations, environmental liability requirements). Experience working with European insurers, brokers, and loss adjusters. Professional certifications (e.g. Chartered Insurance Professional, Risk Management certifications, or equivalent EU qualifications) are an advantage. Strong analytical, documentation, and negotiation skills; ability to independently deliver professional risk and insurance documentation. High resilience and ability to respond effectively during incident and claim situations.
