Professor of Labour Economics (gn)
The Hertie School and the WZB are jointly recruiting a Professor of Labour Economics. The ideal candidate has a strong publication record in labour economics and combines state-of-the-art empirical, policy-relevant research using quasi-experimental and experimental research designs. The research of the candidate should centre on how labour market policies, firm policies and other institutional factors affect inequalities in the labour market, particularly regarding gender.

The successful candidate will be appointed for the duration of five years as W2 (Bund) - S-Professor at the Hertie School, with a secondment to the WZB. The starting date is flexible and subject to negotiations, with the earliest starting date August 1, 2026.
We seek faculty with demonstrated capacity for research at the highest levels in their discipline, as evidenced by publications in top general-interest and leading field journals in economics. We recruit faculty who will create a climate that embraces excellence and diversity with a strong commitment to high-quality teaching and innovative research of interest to the international scholarly community and policymakers. Candidates should enjoy working in an interdisciplinary, international environment with English as the language of instruction and operation. The position entails a commitment to teach in the School’s Master, Executive, and PhD programs, as well as the supervision of master and PhD theses.
The Hertie School and the WZB are fully embedded in Berlin’s vibrant research landscape, and both institutions have close ties to the top institutions of the European and international research community.
The WZB is Germany’s largest publicly funded social sciences research institute, conducting basic research with a focus on the major challenges facing modern societies. The research is theory-based, problem-oriented, often long-term and mostly based on international comparisons. The results of the research are addressed to the scientific community, but also to actors in politics, business, media, and civil society.
