PhD Project – Numerical Methods for High-Performance Dynamic Simulation of Power Systems (f/m/d)
In cooperation with the Institute of Applied Mathematics at TU Delft, we are seeking a PhD candidate to develop advanced numerical methods for accelerating dynamic simulations of electrical power systems.
Your Tasks:
* Research into new methodologies for high-performance dynamic simulation of hybrid DAEs in power-system contexts (EMT & RMS), including for example domain decomposition techniques.
* Tackling challenging research questions at the interface of power-system simulation and applied mathematics.
* Translating novel methods into robust, industry-ready software solutions.
* Close cooperation and exchange with researchers at the Delft Institute of Applied Mathematics on the development and evaluation of new numerical techniques.
* Collaboration with DIgSILENT’s Simulation R&D Team to accelerate state-of-the-art dynamic simulation tools used in industry.
Your Profile:
* A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
* Motivation to work at the intersection of numerical algorithms, high-performance simulation, and industrial power-system applications.
* Solid knowledge in power system engineering, simulation, mathematics or related fields will be advantageous.
* A strong background in numerical methods for differential equations (ODEs/DAEs) and numerical linear algebra is a plus.
* Experience in scientific programming, preferably in C/C++ and/or Python.
* Interest or experience in high-performance computing, including shared-memory and distributed-memory parallelization.
Your Benefits:
* Flexible working hours with the option to work from home
* Childcare allowance for daycare and kindergarten children.
* Work in an innovative and promising working environment with excellent professional development opportunities.
* Flat hierarchies with the advantages of an internationally networked, medium-sized company.
* Guidance and supervision by leading expeerts from TU Delft while being integrated into a highly dynamic and innovative R&D team at DIgSILENT's.
