In cooperation with the Chair of Laser Technology (LLT), the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT)—Europe’s leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology—is offering the opportunity to write a thesis in the field of simulation. Join our #OneTeam and write your thesis with us in Aachen.

In energy technology, laser beam welding processes are used to join components. Special coatings increase their service life. Laser welding of thin steel foils is a complex process that depends on the properties of the materials and laser parameters. These factors influence energy absorption and temperature distribution, which is why interactions between coatings and the welding process are crucial.



Be part of change

* You will develop a model that integrates physical properties and influencing factors to enable precise predictions
* Your task is to analyze the correlation between the influencing mechanisms in order to optimize interactions and improve weld quality
* The goal is to compare the simulation results with the actual component distortion



What you contribute

* You are pursuing a degree in the natural sciences and have an interest in basic research
* You are known for your independent, organized, and structured approach to work
* Experience conducting simulations using ANSYS and Python is a plus, but not required
