Head of maintenance

We are supporting a global pharmaceutical manufacturer to appoint a Head of Maintenance to lead maintenance strategy, equipment reliability, and technical operations across the site.

This role would suit a maintenance leader with strong experience in GMP manufacturing, pharmaceutical production, packaging, utilities and people leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead the maintenance function across production, packaging, utilities and site infrastructure.
• Manage preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance activities.
• Improve reliability, availability and performance of critical production equipment.
• Lead maintenance planning, shutdown preparation and technical prioritisation.
• Support equipment upgrades, line improvements, capacity increases and site investment projects.
• Ensure maintenance activities are completed in line with GMP, EHS and quality requirements.
• Manage deviations, CAPAs, change controls and maintenance-related investigations.
• Lead technicians, supervisors, planners and external maintenance partners.
• Drive spare parts strategy, maintenance KPIs, asset lifecycle planning and obsolescence management.
• Partner closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, EHS, Validation and Supply Chain.
• Support audits, inspections and customer-related technical reviews.
• Manage maintenance budgets, vendors, service contracts and contractor performance.

Requirements

• Strong maintenance leadership experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, FMCG, chemical or regulated manufacturing.
• Experience leading maintenance teams in a complex production environment.
• Good understanding of GMP, documentation, deviations, CAPAs and change control.
• Experience improving equipment reliability, uptime and maintenance performance.
• Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and asset lifecycle management.
• Ability to lead technicians, manage priorities and work closely with production teams.
• Experience with CMMS systems, maintenance planning and KPI management.
• Strong EHS mindset and experience managing contractors safely.
• Professional German and English language skills required.
