About the Company:
Our client is a pioneer in heavy forging solutions, dedicated to innovation, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence.
They are looking at a senior professional to spearhead the COE for metallurgy applications, primarily in OPEN DIE Casting and HEAVY FORGINGS in steel. The incumbent will be responsible for management of the metallurgy function with an oversight of all the strategic metallurgical projects. Identify and implement opportunities for improvement in metallurgical performance of the steel heavy duty forging plants either through continuous improvement, growth projects, or through deployment of leading-edge technology and innovation and its transfer. Participate in sound technical metallurgical processing due diligence, promote Industry Best Practices at operating companies.
Ideal candidate for this role will be having all round experience in Heavy duty forgings(open die casting) overall understanding speciality steel manufacturing, metallurgy process, R&D experience out of which at least 20 years experience in EAF, Induction heating furnace, LF, VOD/VD, ingot casting with added hands-on experience in ESR/VAR/VIM plant making Inconel/Incoloy/DSS/ superalloys/Zirconium/Titanium/Aluminium, with ability to organise, planning and coordinating entire product development including requirement analysis, BOM, optimum element finalising with respect to parts component specifications, designing, verification and validation. Process control system implementation in all production units, with connection to PLC control and ERP systems.
This role can be based in India on an expat package.
The incumbent should be willing to relocate/travel as per the needs of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Forging Expertise:
* Operate and manage open die forging equipment to produce heavy forgings.Collaborate with R&D teams to innovate forging processes, exploring new technologies and materials.Lead customer application development projects to create tailored solutions.
* Maintain rigorous quality standards, ensuring compliance with certifications like ISO, ASME, etc.
2) Steel-Making Knowledge:
* Apply in-depth understanding of steel-making processes to optimise material usage and forging outcomes.
* Innovate with steel alloys for forging applications, enhancing performance and durability.
3) Operations Management:
* Oversee day-to-day operations of the forging division, ensuring efficient workflows and adherence to timelines.
* Coordinate with production, supply chain, and logistics teams to streamline operations.
* Manage resource allocation, inventory, and equipment maintenance for seamless production.
* Build relationships with domestic clients, identifying their needs and delivering innovative solutions.
* Explore opportunities for growth in India's heavy industries, including automotive, aerospace, and energy sectors.
4) Leadership & Innovation:
* Drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.
* Mentor and train team members, fostering skill development and collaboration.
Qualifications:
Educational Background:
* BS/ MS in Metallurgy
* Professionals with a Ph.D. in metallurgy, steel-making, or related domains will be highly preferred.
Experience:
* Minimum of 20–25 years in open die forging, steel-making, or heavy engineering industries.
Skills:
* Strong knowledge of steel-making processes, metallurgy, and advanced manufacturing practices.
* Proven ability to lead operations, manage teams, and drive innovation.
* Recognized amongst peers as a Subject Matter Expert in metallurgy function.
* Conversant with NABL & ISO-9001 practices have thorough knowledge of different codes/standards like ASME, ISO, BS & various testing methods.
* In addition to Mechanical, Chemical & Metallurgical testing, should have hands on knowledge of corrosion testing like ASTM A262, ASTM G46 & 48, NACE standards, etc. Conducting metallurgical quality audit of SMS, Forging, HT, suppliers & investigation of heat treatment/material/component problem and finding solution.
Preferred Skills:
* Expertise in CNC or VMC operations for machining forged components.
* Familiarity with ERP systems and operational analytics.
* Experience in quality testing and inspection processes.
