Co-reactive is revolutionizing the construction industry by transforming CO₂ into high-performance building materials. Our goal is to make CO₂-efficient construction possible for everyone, everywhere. Using our systems, we produce a sustainable cement substitute that binds CO₂ permanently and with long-term durability. We are currently scaling our production facilities to an industrial level — and we need you to help us do it! We’re a fast-growing, dynamic team of more than 12 employees, bringing together our technical center, production, and office at a single location in Erkrath, right near Düsseldorf.


Tasks

In this thesis, you will conduct a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of Co-reactive’s carbon mineralization process. You will gather primary process data from our newly commissioned demonstration plant and use LCA software to build a model and analyse emissions using a cradle-to-gate approach.

You will work closely with the engineering team to collect data and with the wider team to understand the overall process chain. Your work will help us better understand the environmental impact of our technology and identify key levers for improvement as we scale up.

Tasks

* Identify the relevant processes across the value chain
* Collect and structure the required process with operational data
* Build a cradle-to-gate LCA model
* Analyze the environmental impacts of the process
* Identify the main emission hotspots and improvement opportunities
* Document assumptions, methodology, and results clearly


Requirements

* You are studying engineering, chemistry, materials science, physics, sustainability sciences or a related field.
* You have an interest in sustainability assessment, environmental analysis, or process engineering.
* Previous experience with sustainability studies or LCA is a plus.
* You work in a structured and independent way
* You are highly motivated to contribute to the development of sustainable construction materials and the growth of a startup company.

Die Zementindustrie verursacht rund 8 % der weltweiten CO₂‑Emissionen – ein Großteil entsteht direkt aus Kalkstein. Co‑reactive, eine Ausgründung der RWTH Aachen, entwickelt und skaliert ein innovatives Verfahren zur CO₂‑Mineralisierung, das CO₂ dauerhaft in festem Karbonat bindet. Gleichzeitig entsteht dabei reaktives amorphes Silica, das als leistungsfähige Komponente in Bindemittelsystemen eingesetzt werden kann.

Unser Produkt bietet einen klaren Dual Benefit: Es wirkt als CO₂‑Senke und ermöglicht zugleich die Substitution eines Teils des emissionsintensiven Zements, was sowohl den CO₂‑Fußabdruck deutlich reduziert als auch die Materialperformance steigert. So schaffen wir die Grundlage für klimafreundlichere und leistungsfähigere Baustoffe.
