PURPOSE OF THE ROLE BBC News Russian is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, and well-connected Russian-speaking Senior Journalist to join our team. Based in Berlin, you will cover Russian-related stories deploying across Europe as needed. Your work will contribute to our mission of delivering accurate, impartial, and impactful journalism across all BBC News Russian digital platforms. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT: • Produce original, high-quality journalism for BBC News Russian's digital platforms. • Generate innovative and impactful content ideas tailored to Russian-speaking audiences. • Cover Russian-related stories from a base in Berlin, deploying across Europe as required. • Collaborate with wider BBC News and BBC World Service teams across digital, linear, and social platforms. • Work flexibly, including travel and unsocial hours, to meet editorial demands. YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: • Proven experience of pitching, researching and producing high impact original stories for Russian-speaking audiences across various platforms; strong track record in writing text stories and producing video and audio content to the highest editorial standards, including contributions to podcasts, live streams, and other live or as-live output. • Excellent spoken and written Russian as first language or equivalent level; deep knowledge of Russia and neighbouring countries essential, along with a broad understanding of global affairs; clear understanding of the needs of the BBC's diverse Russian-speaking audiences. • Demonstrable experience of working in challenging and high-pressure environments, balancing competing demands and reacting to a fast-moving news agenda; readiness to be deployed at short notice, ideally including to hostile environments. • Experience using audience metrics to inform decisions and commissions; ability to track content success, interpret trends, identify story opportunities, and incorporate feedback loops into decision making. • Readiness to work as part of a team, collaborating creatively with colleagues across the Russian Service, the Europe digital production hub, and other teams in WS Languages in both Content and Output where appropriate. DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED: • Ability to report or comment in English for other BBC outlets very desirable • Familiarity with OSINT tools desirable. LI-DNI
