Our firm is partnering with an award-winning, cross-platform, narrative-driven game studio based in Berlin to identify a Lead Writer.
The studio is known for creating choice-based, text-rich experiences with a strong focus on systemic storytelling, player agency, and meaningful consequences. Operates as a collaborative, internationally distributed team with a strong emphasis on writing craft, worldbuilding, and narrative depth.
Role Overview
* Serves as the primary creative authority for all narrative and written content on a narrative-driven interactive project
* Defines and drives overall narrative direction, tone, voice, and storytelling standards
* Responsible for the quality, coherence, and consistency of all written material across the project
* Writes substantial portions of the game, including dialogue, scenes, events, and branching decision-based content
* Ensures all narrative work aligns with the established fictional universe, canon, and creative vision
* Leads the writing function, setting priorities, workflows, and editorial standards
Essential Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Lead Writer or Senior Writer on narrative-driven games or interactive projects
* Demonstrated ability to lead a writing team and provide clear editorial direction
* Strong authorship skills with experience producing high volumes of narrative content
* Excellent command of tone, voice, political nuance, and long-form storytelling
* Experience working within and expanding an established fictional universe or shared canon
* Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (design, production, technical)
* Strong organizational and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with narrative-heavy, choice-driven or branching storytelling formats
* Familiarity with politically driven or systems-based narrative design
* Background in political science, history, or related socio-political fields
* Experience mentoring writers or coordinating multiple contributors
* Experience working within milestone-driven production environments
Key Responsibilities
* Lead narrative direction, priorities, and writing standards in alignment with the project’s creative vision
* Own the narrative foundation of a new in-game setting, including themes, tone, factions, institutions, characters, and history
* Write core content such as major scenes, dialogue, events, decisions, and consequence-driven text
* Create and maintain narrative documentation (story outlines, worldbuilding guides, character profiles, and narrative pillars)
* Mentor, direct, and review work from writers and narrative contributors
* Provide structured editorial feedback to ensure quality, clarity, and consistency
* Establish and enforce standards for voice, style, and narrative coherence
* Collaborate with Narrative Design to align writing with branching structures and gameplay systems
* Work with Game Design and Systems teams to support mechanics, UI, and player-facing clarity
* Coordinate with Technical teams on implementation requirements (variables, logic, tools)
* Review implemented content and drive revisions based on testing, QA, and feedback
* Align writing deliverables with production timelines, milestones, and dependencies
* Maintain organized documentation and task tracking using collaboration tools.
