Electrical Design Engineer - Rail Systems
iO Associates are partnered with an innovative engineering organisation developing advanced rail‑transport technologies for major global infrastructure projects. Their R&D centre in Northern Germany focuses on next‑generation rail vehicle systems and custom mobility solutions.
In this role, you'll contribute to new electrical architectures, prototype development and technology‑driven design work for rail vehicles. You'll work extensively with Zuken and collaborate closely with mechanical, systems and software engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Produce and update electrical schematics, grounding layouts and parts lists in line with technical requirements
Support R&D by developing prototype circuits and evaluating new electrotechnical components
Select components in accordance with rail‑specific standards (e.g., EN 50155, EN 50126, EN 50129)
Build and maintain component databases and design libraries within Zuken
Contribute to internal design standards and documentation processes
Provide technical information for manuals, engineering reports and technical writing
Review requirements documents and support system‑level design discussions
Coordinate external engineering partners when required
Liaise with suppliers, cross‑functional engineering teams and, when necessary, customers involved in prototype development
Develop and update pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams aligned with project specifications
Ensure compliance with internal procedures, safety requirements and engineering guidelines
Skills & Experience
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a comparable technical field
Solid experience in electrical design within vehicle systems, machinery or similar complex environments
Preferably, experience with traction systems, power distribution or vehicle electrics
Understanding of industry‑relevant rail standards
Strong CAD experience - ideally Zuken
Fluent German (written & spoken) and good English skills
