Your Role As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a cross-functional team of 9 engineers (directly and indirectly) responsible for emnify’s mission-critical core network services. These services ensure the connectivity, scalability, and reliability of our global infrastructure, enabling customer devices to connect across 500 mobile networks worldwide. This team designs, builds, and operates core components such as HLR/HSS, AuC, Diameter routers, SIGTRAN, SMSC, and other services that power authentication, signaling, and messaging for emnify SIMs globally. You will play a key role in guiding architecture and engineering practices, helping the team evolve from legacy systems to highly scalable, event-driven, cloud-native solutions, while fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture. Location : Germany or Poland. If based in Berlin, we expect you to join us in the office 3 days per week. If based elsewhere, we ask for monthly travel to our Berlin office. Your Impact Team Leadership & Engineering Culture: Foster a strong, quality-driven engineering culture rooted in modern practices (e.g. CI/CD, testing, clean code, system ownership). Guide team growth through mentorship and inclusive leadership. Technical & Architectural Direction: Lead system architecture and design discussions. Drive the evolution of our core network from a distributed monolith to scalable, resilient, event-driven services. Strategic Technical Initiatives: Enable large-scale transformations, including core network modernization and 5G readiness, through pragmatic leadership and collaborative planning. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, telco engineers, and platform teams to align architecture with product and business goals. Operational Excellence: Ensure system reliability through robust testing, observability, and gradual rollouts. Balance roadmap execution with incident response and continuous improvement. Your Skills Engineering Leadership: Proven experience managing and mentoring engineers, with the ability to lead through influence, foster autonomy, and drive alignment across teams. System Architecture & Design: Strong track record designing and evolving distributed, event-driven systems that prioritize high availability, scalability, and observability. Modern Engineering Practices: Deep understanding of clean code, CI/CD, automated testing, and production-grade infrastructure. You balance speed with long-term quality. Cloud Infrastructure & Operations: Experience building and operating services in cloud-native environments (e.g. Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform ), including monitoring and alerting. Collaborative Problem-Solving: You’re comfortable facilitating design discussions, navigating trade-offs, and working with diverse stakeholders to align on solutions.
