The Power Conversion Technology Laboratory within Huawei's Ohm Research Center (Nuremberg) focuses on Advanced Digital Power Technology Research, Architecture Evolution Design, and Strategic Technology Planning, playing an important role in the Huawei Digital Power business by designing and developing power converters and control systems for PV Solar & Battery Energy Storage, Data Centers, Electric Vehicles, and Embedded Power Supply applications. Join us as an Industrial PhD Researcher – Design of Grid‑tied Power Converters for Power Electronic Dominated Grids (m/f/d). Your mission You will conduct research on grid‑tied power conversion systems with grid‑support / grid‑forming functionalities. You will perform in‑depth analysis of state‑of‑the‑art power converter topologies, identifying component stress, potential bottlenecks, and failure modes during grid transient conditions. You will research novel topologies, modulation, control, and algorithms for such power conversion systems to ensure converters meet grid requirements without excessive oversizing of active and passive components. You will produce hardware prototypes in laboratory environments for proof of concepts. You will document research findings through patents, reports, or publications in reputed journals and conferences. Your areas of expertise A Master of Science (MSc) or equivalent degree in Power Electronics, Power Engineering, or a related Electrical & Electronics discipline. Hands‑on experience in a laboratory or R&D environment is a plus. Solid fundamental understanding of power electronic converter principles and passive component design. Solid theoretical knowledge of multilevel power converter topologies, modulation, and control algorithms. Good working knowledge of one or more of the following software tools: MATLAB, Simulink, PLECS, Python, Octave. Target‑oriented and structured thinking, eagerness to learn, and readiness to think outside the box. Proficiency in both written and spoken English, with the ability to collaborate effectively in an international, multicultural research team.
