Mechanical Project Manager – Large Scale Data Centre Projects
About the Role
The Mechanical Project Manager is responsible for managing and delivering mechanical systems on large-scale data centre construction projects. The role involves overseeing the installation, coordination, commissioning, and handover of mission-critical mechanical infrastructure including HVAC systems, chilled water plants, and associated equipment. The successful candidate will ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with client specifications and industry standards.
Responsibilities
* Project Management
* Lead the execution of mechanical packages on hyperscale and enterprise data centre projects.
* Manage project schedules, resources, budgets, and subcontractor performance.
* Prepare and maintain project plans, progress reports, and cost tracking.
* Coordinate mechanical construction activities with electrical, civil, and structural teams.
* Manage installation and commissioning of critical mechanical infrastructure including:
* Chilled water systems
* HVAC and air distribution systems
* CRAH/CRAC units
* Cooling towers and chillers
* Pumping systems and pipework
* BMS integration
* Ensure systems meet data centre redundancy standards (N+1, 2N) and operational requirements.
* Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
* Work closely with consultants and engineering teams to resolve design issues.
* Manage RFIs, technical queries, and design changes during project execution.
* Manage mechanical subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
* Conduct coordination meetings with consultants, contractors, and client teams.
* Maintain strong communication with project stakeholders.
* Ensure all works comply with health & safety regulations, project specifications, and quality standards.
* Review and approve method statements, risk assessments, and inspection test plans.
* Monitor site quality inspections and ensure compliance with industry standards.
* Support and manage mechanical commissioning activities.
* Coordinate integrated system testing (IST) for data centre infrastructure.
* Ensure completion of as-built documentation, O&M manuals, and final project handover.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
* Professional project management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2 (preferred).
