Role Overview
The Project Quality Managerplays a pivotal role in ensuring the successful execution of large-scale construction and engineering projects. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining robust quality systems, operational procedures, and tools aligned with ISO 9001 certification and client-specific requirements.
Acting as a central figure in the project delivery process, the Project Quality Manager ensures all works adhere to industry standards, regulations, and company procedures, embedding a strong culture of “Right First Time” across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Compliance: Ensure all project activities comply with relevant standards, building codes, and regulations; maintain awareness of any regulatory updates.
Quality Assurance:Develop, implement, and manage quality assurance processes and inspection systems to prevent errors and defects.
Quality Control: Create and oversee inspection and test plans, hold points, and quality sign-off procedures to verify compliance and workmanship standards.
Process Improvement:Drive continuous improvement across construction processes, capturing lessons learned and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
Supplier & Contractor Quality: Evaluate and approve supplier and subcontractor quality plans; maintain strong relationships to ensure consistent quality of materials and workmanship.
Documentation & Reporting:Maintain comprehensive quality records, including inspections, audits, and non-conformance reports; prepare regular progress reports for management and stakeholders.
Training & Awareness: Lead training sessions and workshops to build quality awareness among project teams and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Risk Management:Identify and assess quality-related risks; develop mitigation strategies to prevent reoccurrence and ensure consistent delivery standards.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Ensure all deliverables meet or exceed client expectations; address quality issues promptly and professionally.
Project Handover:Manage the quality handover process, ensuring all documentation and deliverables are fully verified and compliant.
Key Competencies
In-depth knowledge of quality assurance and control principles, including ITPs, project completion strategies, and audit processes.
Strong project management understanding, with experience integrating quality systems across complex project lifecycles.
Proven track record in continuous improvement and process optimization within construction or EPC/EPCM environments.
Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
Skilled in data analysis, trend identification, and root cause analysis for technical problem-solving.
Proficient with digital quality management systems, audit tools, and project management platforms.
Up-to-date knowledge of local and international regulatory frameworks, building codes, and quality standards.
Experience promoting and embedding a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience Required
Extensive experience leading quality functions within the construction or engineering industry, ideally on large-scale or industrial projects.
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quality Management, or a related discipline.
Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 standards and certification processes; experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 advantageous.
Demonstrated experience conducting or leading ISO audits.
Chartered Quality Professional (CQP) status or membership in a recognized professional body (e.g. Chartered Quality Institute) preferred.
Fluent in English; proficiency in German highly advantageous.
