Chief Engineer / Facilities Manager – Hyperscale Data Centre
Location: Germany (site‑based)
Contract Type: Permanent or Freelance (project‑based)
Start: 2026 mobilisations (phased starts available)
Language: English essential; German beneficial but not mandatory
Eligibility: EU‑based professionals or those eligible to work in Germany
I’m working in partnership with a leading international hyperscale data‑centre operator delivering a large‑scale campus development in Germany. Due to expansion and phased handover of multiple facilities, they are looking to appoint multiple experienced Chief Engineers / Facilities Managers to take ownership of engineering operations, uptime, and technical leadership across the site.
These are senior, site‑critical roles within a live hyperscale environment, suited to professionals with a strong background in mission‑critical operations, MEP systems, and 24/7 facilities management.
Role Responsibilities
* Overall responsibility for site engineering operations across one or more hyperscale facilities
* Ownership of critical environments including HV/LV, generators, UPS, cooling systems, BMS, and fire/life safety
* Ensuring 100% uptime, resilience, and compliance with hyperscale operational standards
* Leading, mentoring, and managing site engineering and FM teams
* Act as the primary technical authority during handover from construction to operations
* Managing planned and reactive maintenance programmes, permits to work, and change control
* Incident management, fault response, and root‑cause analysis
* Working closely with construction, commissioning, and project delivery teams during phased expansion
* Liaising with vendors, service partners, and client stakeholders
* Ensuring compliance with German regulations, health & safety standards, and internal policies
Experience Required
* Proven experience as a Chief Engineer, Facilities Manager, or Engineering Manager within:
* Hyperscale or colocation data centres
* Mission‑critical environments (data centres, hospitals, pharma, critical manufacturing)
* Strong working knowledge of electrical and mechanical critical systems
* Experience operating within live, high‑availability environments
* Comfortable leading teams in a 24/7 operational model
* Strong stakeholder management and decision‑making capability
* Experience supporting new builds, commissioning, and operational handover highly desirable
