The Opportunity
Due to continued growth across Germany and Europe, we are seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to join our Procurement Team.
This role will play a key part in supporting major construction and engineering projects by driving procurement strategy, supplier performance, commercial value and supply chain resilience. The successful candidate will work closely with project teams, engineering, planning, finance and operations functions to ensure procurement activities are aligned with business and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
* Develop and implement sourcing strategies aligned with business objectives.
* Identify, evaluate and select suppliers based on cost, quality, delivery and risk.
* Lead competitive tendering activities including RFQs and RFPs.
* Analyse market trends and supplier capabilities to support procurement decisions.
* Drive sourcing initiatives that deliver long-term value to the business.
Supplier Management & Relationships
* Build and maintain strong supplier relationships across multiple categories.
* Conduct supplier performance reviews covering quality, delivery, cost and service.
* Negotiate pricing, contracts, commercial terms and service agreements.
* Resolve supplier issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
* Expand and strengthen the approved supplier network.
Contract & Commercial Management
* Draft, review and manage procurement contracts and amendments.
* Ensure supplier compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures.
* Lead contract renewals and commercial renegotiations.
* Support commercial reviews and procurement governance activities.
Cost Control & Value Optimisation
* Identify and deliver cost-saving and value-adding opportunities.
* Track procurement savings, cost avoidance initiatives and budget adherence.
* Support total cost of ownership (TCO) assessments and hire-versus-buy evaluations.
* Contribute to commercial performance reporting.
Operational Procurement
* Oversee purchase order management and supplier delivery performance.
* Support day-to-day procurement activities across multiple projects.
* Coordinate with logistics, planning and project teams.
* Manage escalations relating to supply chain disruptions or shortages.
* Ensure timely procurement of goods and services.
Stakeholder Collaboration
* Partner with Engineering, Operations, Planning, Finance and Project Teams.
* Translate business requirements into effective procurement solutions.
* Act as a trusted procurement advisor to internal stakeholders.
* Support procurement planning across project lifecycles.
Compliance, Risk & Governance
* Ensure procurement activities comply with company procedures and legal requirements.
* Identify and mitigate supply chain risks.
* Support audits and maintain accurate procurement records and documentation.
* Promote procurement best practice across the business.
Leadership & Development
* Provide guidance and mentorship to Buyers and Junior Buyers.
* Review and approve purchasing decisions within delegated authority levels.
* Support process improvements and procurement excellence initiatives.
* Undertake additional duties as required by management.
Skills & Experience Required
* Proven experience in a Senior Buyer, Procurement Specialist or Strategic Sourcing role.
* Experience within Construction, Engineering, Manufacturing, Infrastructure or Technical environments.
* Strong commercial awareness and negotiation capability.
* Experience managing supplier relationships and procurement contracts.
* Demonstrated ability to deliver procurement savings and value improvements.
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and procurement systems.
* Experience working within large-scale project environments would be highly advantageous.
* Fluent English required. German language skills would be beneficial.
