The Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology IPK in Berlin conducts research and development across the entire production spectrum and has state-of-the-art technologies in the field of manufacturing engineering at its disposal. The technologies and systems we develop are used industrially in both the macro and micro sectors and can be found in areas such as vehicle construction and supply, tool and mold making, aerospace technology, energy technology, machine tool and plant engineering, the printing machine industry, and the woodworking industry.
In the Manufacturing Technologies department, we work on the development, provision, and adaptation of production and manufacturing technologies for the manufacture of innovative products. We develop new machines and machining strategies on behalf of our customers, optimize existing production facilities, and implement future-oriented tool concepts. Our core competencies include machining technology, precision machining, cleaning and blasting processes, additive manufacturing, and production and machine measurement technology.
What you will do
As part of the mandatory internship, you can provide support in various areas of robot-guided machining and gain experience in industry-related research. You will work on current research and development projects and assist in the development of new systems and processes. To this end, you will deal with the state of the art and the market situation, among other things. You will identify potential suppliers, design the required system components, and construct them independently. Other tasks within the mandatory internship may include:
* Varied work ranging from manufacturing to design and FE simulation to programming
* Working on and with industrial robots
* Planning, setting up, and evaluating test series
* Collaborating on and supporting current research and development projects
What you bring to the table
* Studies in mechanical engineering, production engineering, information technology in mechanical engineering, physical engineering sciences
* Strong team player and ability to work independently and responsibly
* Independence, determination, and a cautious and solution-oriented approach to work are your strengths
* Advanced knowledge in the fields of manufacturing technology, design engineering, and automation technology
* Experience with CAD/CAM and industrial robots is desirable
* Completed vocational training or experience in the field of metal technology, metal cutting, precision engineering, or toolmaking is desirable
* Confident use of MS Office programs

The weekly working time is 39 hours (full-time).
Remuneration is based on the federal guidelines for internship remuneration.
The duration of the thesis depends on the requirements of your university.
