To strengthen our team in the division 5.2 “Metallic High-Temperature Materials” in Berlin-Steglitz, starting 01.04.2026, we are looking for a PostDoc (m/f/d) Characterization of creep behavior using bending creep tests Salary group 13TVöD Temporary contract until 31.03.2028 Full-time / suitable as part-time employment The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and chemistry and process engineering. We are looking for talented people to join us. Your responsibilities include: Innovative screening of metallic high-temperature materials for efficient determination of creep behavior using bending creep tests: * Further development of the existing bending creep device * Conducting bending creep tests on metallic high-temperature materials for accelerated characterization of creep behavior * Conducting uniaxial creep tests (tension, compression) and comparing the results * Characterization of the microstructure–property relationship using optical microscopy, SEM and EBSD * Correlation of microstructure and creep behavior * Publication of the results Your qualifications: * Completed academic degree (Diploma/Master) in materials science, materials engineering, or a comparable field * Completed PhD * In-depth knowledge of the mechanical behavior and microstructure of metals and their deformation mechanisms at high temperature * Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in mechanical testing of high-temperature materials, including various strain measurement methods * Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in microstructural characterization using light and electron microscopy (SEM, EBSD) * Knowledge of the finite element method is an advantage * Proven record of publications in recognized international scientific journals * Excellent English communication skills (written and oral); German language proficiency is advantageous * Good communication and information behaviour, goal-oriented and structured way of working * Ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate, willingness to learn We offer: * Attractive and modern working environment with excellent infrastructure and state-of-the-art scientific equipment (laboratories, etc.) * Opportunities for internal, interdisciplinary networking and participation in team events * Scope for research and development for your own innovative ideas * A responsible, interesting and varied job in a competent and collegial environment * An open, welcoming culture, a certified family-friendly working environment, regular feedback meetings and competent contact persons, sustainability [including a subsidy for a job ticket] Your application: We welcome applications via the online application form by 13.02.2026.
