About the Role
We are supporting a well-established insurance organisation embarking on a multi-year transformation programme aimed at modernising its technology landscape, accelerating digital innovation and strengthening its competitive position within the German and wider European insurance markets.
As Chief Technology Officer, you will join the senior leadership team and take ownership of the organisations technology strategy, architecture, engineering capability and transformation roadmap. You will play a critical role in shaping how technology supports underwriting, claims, distribution, customer engagement and operational excellence.
This is a highly visible leadership position requiring a blend of strategic vision, insurance domain expertise and proven execution capability across complex enterprise environments.
Your Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
* Develop and execute the enterprise technology strategy in alignment with corporate objectives.
* Advise executive leadership and supervisory stakeholders on technology investments, risks and opportunities.
* Build a future-ready technology organisation capable of supporting business growth and regulatory change.
* Establish technology governance frameworks and ensure alignment between business and technology priorities.
Insurance Technology Transformation
* Lead large-scale modernisation of core insurance platforms and supporting business systems.
* Drive transformation initiatives across policy administration, claims, billing, underwriting and customer-facing technologies.
* Own the strategic roadmap for Guidewire and associated insurance technology platforms.
* Oversee cloud adoption, platform consolidation and retirement of legacy applications.
* Ensure technology investments deliver measurable business value and operational efficiencies.
Guidewire & Core Insurance Platforms
* Act as executive sponsor for Guidewire-related programmes and technology strategy.
* Drive optimisation and adoption of:
* Guidewire PolicyCenter
* Guidewire ClaimCenter
* Guidewire BillingCenter
* Guidewire Cloud Platform
* Guidewire Digital
* Guidewire Data & Analytics capabilities
* Ensure seamless integration between core insurance systems and surrounding technology ecosystems.
* Partner with business leaders to maximise return on investment from insurance technology platforms.
Technology Operations & Delivery
* Lead Architecture, Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, Data and Technology Delivery functions.
* Develop high-performing technology teams across Germany and international locations.
* Introduce modern engineering practices, agile delivery models and automation capabilities.
* Establish robust operational resilience, cybersecurity and service management standards.
Regulatory & Governance Responsibilities
* Ensure technology operations comply with German and European regulatory requirements.
* Work closely with Risk, Compliance and Internal Audit functions.
* Support regulatory obligations including:
* BaFin requirements
* Solvency II
* DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act)
* GDPR
* Information Security and Operational Risk frameworks
* Support external audits and regulatory reviews where required.
Essential Experience
* Significant leadership experience within the insurance sector.
* Proven success delivering enterprise-wide transformation programmes within insurers or insurance-focused consultancies.
* Strong understanding of General Insurance, P&C Insurance, Commercial Lines or Specialty Insurance operations.
* Deep knowledge of Guidewire InsuranceSuite and Guidewire Cloud.
* Experience leading complex technology organisations with substantial budgets and multi-disciplinary teams.
* Demonstrated success in cloud transformation, enterprise architecture and technology modernisation.
* Experience managing relationships with system integrators, technology partners and executive stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
* Previous CTO, CIO, Chief Architect, Technology Director or Executive Technology Leadership experience.
* Exposure to German insurance carriers and regulatory environments.
* Experience with complementary insurance platforms such as Adcubum, SAP FS-CD, Sapiens, Duck Creek, Majesco or Fadata.
* Knowledge of AI, advanced analytics, automation and digital insurance ecosystems.
* Experience working within organisations undergoing significant growth, acquisition or transformation.
