Animal Facility Management and Head of the Veterinary In-House Pharmacy Wuppertal (all genders) Join us in a key leadership role where you will shape the future of laboratory animal care by overseeing state-of-the-art animal facilities and ensuring the highest standards in animal welfare and sustainability. As a licensed veterinarian (all genders), you will lead a diverse team, manage veterinary care across multiple species, and act as a vital liaison with regulatory authorities. This is a unique opportunity to combine scientific excellence with strategic impact in a highly collaborative research environment. You take on technical leadership and organizational responsibility for the animal husbandry facilities, ensuring full compliance with legal requirements for laboratory animal care, including assuming responsibility under § 11 of the German Animal Welfare Act You lead, develop, and modernize the animal facilities to establish them as a benchmark for animal welfare and sustainability Part of your role is to ensure the veterinary care of various species (mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, non-human primates (NHP) and Göttinger minipigs), including overseeing documentation for all animal-related procedures You proactively prepare for potential risks, incidents, and crises to ensure continuity of operations You implement and harmonize a robust hygiene and health monitoring program across all facilities You serve as a central liaison between researchers and relevant veterinary authorities You collaborate closely with the animal welfare officer and actively participate in the animal welfare committee Your responsibilities include direct communication with permitting authorities and oversight of the veterinary dispensary, including participation in weekend duty Your veterinary duties consist of diagnosing and treating diseases across a wide range of species You hold a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine and are licensed to practice as a veterinarian You are qualified as specialist veterinarian in laboratory animal science or animal welfare You bring several years of experience managing animal facilities and demonstrate a deep understanding of the requirements in the field of laboratory animal welfare You possess practical experience in animal experimentation; experience with multiple species, including mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, NHPs and Göttinger minipigs is a strong advantage You are familiar with accreditation processes, particularly AAALAC, and ideally have supported such initiatives before You have successfully managed a veterinary dispensary and are confident in the oversight of pharmaceutical stocks You combine excellent communication skills with a collaborative approach and the ability to engage with regulatory bodies Fluency in German, both verbal and written rounds off your profile; good English language skills are also required Our benefits package is flexible, appreciative, and tailored to your lifestyle, because: What matters to you, matters to us!
