Technical Product Owner – Digital Commerce (Magento) (m/f/d) Salary: €55,000–65,000 gross p.a., depending on experience / 70% on-site / 30% remote Our Magento platform is the heart of our business. It is developed jointly by our internal team and a trusted Magento agency – we retain full technical and quality responsibility. To support our next phase of growth, we are expanding our Digital Commerce team. What it’s all about You’ll handle e-commerce projects end-to-end—from the initial marketing request through to go-live. You don’t just write concepts and pass them on: You understand the code, take a look yourself, conduct reviews, configure directly in Magento, debug importer errors, and run SQL queries against production data. We’re not a large corporation with strict divisions between “concept” and “code”—we don’t have those here. Our external Magento agency isn’t just a recipient of your tickets; it’s part of our development team. You’ll work alongside the devs, review what comes back, and, if necessary, work through tricky parts of the code together. You don’t hand over responsibility—you share it. Organizationally, you’ll report directly to our Tech Lead for Digital Commerce—who comes from a development background and is building their own team in this role. For you, this means: a direct sparring partner instead of being “one of many,” plenty of learning opportunities, and at the same time, room to make your own decisions within your areas of expertise. He is responsible for the platform as a whole; you are independently responsible for clearly defined areas of expertise. You make fundamental architectural decisions together. Your Responsibilities Capture, refine, and solve requirements. You receive requests from the business units—primarily from the marketing team—clarify them technically, check dependencies, and develop a solution concept together with the Tech Lead and the developers. You write specs that are truly implementable because you know firsthand what the platform is capable of. Implement on your own where appropriate—deliver collaboratively where it makes sense. You build smaller customizations yourself, configure in Magento, run SQL queries against the database, and debug importers. For larger projects, you collaborate with our developers (both in-house and at the agency), review code, test on staging and production, plan the release, and launch your projects. After go-live, you remain the owner and continue to develop the features. Support marketing as a key stakeholder. Tracking, campaigns, content, SEO, AI applications, search, UX—you’re the first technical point of contact for Marketing. You bridge the gap between “We need Z” and “Magento can do X,” and you’re also the first point of contact for Sales, Customer Service, and other teams when their projects involve the shop system. Bring a platform-oriented mindset to the table. You keep an eye on the big picture: Does a new feature fit into the existing platform? Where might friction arise? When does the Tech Lead need to be involved for an architectural decision? You document recurring topics—new store, new language, marketing integration—so they become scalable for all of us. Typical topics that land on your desk Integrate AI consultants (product advice & sales assistance) into the shop: clarify interfaces, design integration, plan data flow/tracking, support go-live. Connecting new suppliers to the product importer: Analyze data structure, mapping, import logic with developers. New store / new language / new country: Setup (store views, localization, SEO implications). Checkout / signup optimizations: Clarify requirements, design, test, launch. Your Profile Must-haves: Degree in IT (or equivalent). 2 years of full-time development experience (Web / E-commerce / PHP / JS / SQL, etc.). You want to move away from 100% coding, but not away from technology: reviews, configuration, SQL, debugging. Very good basic understanding of web / e-commerce (HTTP / APIs / JSON / XML, Dev / Stage / Prod, caching, DB). Strong communication skills (tickets, bridging the gap between marketing and dev). Fluent in German, very good English. Nice-to-have: Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce experience, certification. Marketing stack (GA4 / GTM / Consent / CRM). Integration experience (ERP / PIM / Payment / Shipping).
